Caihu: Innovative Soybean Oil Packaging

Environmentally Friendly and Lightweight Solution

Usually, oil bottles are packed in plastic bottles and glass bottles, but plastic is not environmentally friendly, and glass is too bulky in express delivery. When you see abandoned plant straw, the designer thinks that it is better to make these plant straw into plant fiber bottles, which is more environmentally friendly and lightweight!

Introducing Caihu, a groundbreaking soybean oil packaging design by Zhangyong Hou. This innovative solution aims to address the environmental concerns associated with traditional oil packaging materials. By utilizing plant fibers extracted from agricultural waste, Caihu offers a sustainable and lightweight alternative to plastic and glass bottles.

After the harvest of soybeans, wheat, sugarcane, and other agricultural products, a significant amount of straw is left behind. Zhangyong Hou saw the potential in recycling this straw and extracting plant fibers to create degradable fiber bottles. These bottles not only reduce the use of plastic and glass but also provide a second life for agricultural waste.

One of the key features of Caihu is its unique shape, inspired by the form of a soybean eggplant. This design choice not only adds a touch of elegance but also enhances the user experience by providing a comfortable grip. The outer packaging of Caihu resembles a giant soybean eggplant, creating a visually appealing and cohesive product presentation.

With a net content of 550ml and a height of 260mm, Caihu meets the technical specifications required for soybean oil packaging. The bottles are made by recycling plant fibers such as bagasse and soybean straw, which are pressed into shape using molds. The result is a durable and eco-friendly container that showcases the golden soybean oil flowing out of a full soybean eggplant.

Not only is Caihu environmentally friendly and recyclable, but it also offers a unique after-use functionality. Once the oil is consumed, the bottles can be repurposed as flower pots for plants, further extending their lifespan and reducing waste.

Zhangyong Hou and his team faced several challenges during the development of Caihu, particularly in experimenting with the use and safety of the materials. However, their dedication and commitment to innovation paid off, resulting in a packaging design that pushes the boundaries of sustainability and aesthetics.

Caihu represents a bold attempt to revolutionize packaging materials and shapes, quickly capturing attention on store shelves and sparking conversations on social media. By combining functionality, sustainability, and visual appeal, this design sets a new standard for soybean oil packaging.

Caihu has been recognized for its excellence and innovation in design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category in 2022. This prestigious accolade is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. Caihu's integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and contribution to a better world make it a deserving recipient of this honor.
